DODIONGAN FALLS

Dodiongan Falls is best described by many people, who had visited the sight, as an Angel-Winged Waterfall because of its segmented water flow that resembles an archangel wings just waiting to expand. The water flow is separated by a protruding rock on the upper part of its boulder similar with that of Maria Cristina Falls.  Dodiongan Falls, soaring for about 20 meters or 65-66 feet high, is majestic in its entirety. Moreover, it has unique characteristics that set Dodiongan Falls apart from the others.

With numerous waterfalls located in Iligan City, Dodiongan Falls is the only known waterfall in the city today that is considered as a chute type of waterfall because of its water gliding on the slab. The water smoothly glides through its 30 feet high hard slab of rock and then makes its way into an approximately 10 feet plunge pool. Though water is gliding on the slab as it flows, Dodiongan Falls still has a massive heavy sound that wakes up every soul of the visitors.

Aside from its majestic structure, Dodiongan Falls is very unique in a way that, when looking from afar, it has a thin sheet of thread-like water flowing that makes it look like grandma’s hair. One can be deceived by its finely flowing water as not moving at all. This makes Dodiongan Falls more fascinating. Eager to reach the plunge pool, the water suddenly falls from gliding on the slab because of the uniquely formed gap making it look like a hanging boulder.

To complete the visit, one should not forget to feel that the wildlife environment Dodiongan Falls can offer. Jumping off into the cool and fresh plunge pool is an experience one should not miss. Any way no one can resist the pull of nature. The breeze of nature and fresh air, the tropical scent of wild flowers, the smooth rushing of water stream that is very relaxing to hear, and the absence of city noise and smoke are just the few things visitors should expect.

For first time adventurers, Dodiongan Falls is the best place since its trail to the jump-off point is very easy to follow. Trekkers will just have to trail the river stream then ahead is already the falls. After passing an elevated foothold shrouded with shrubs and grasses, trekkers can then clearly hear the tumbling of water signifying that the falls is just waiting for visitors to witness its daunting structure.

Motorcycles (Habal-habal) are available for rent in the Barinaut intersection. It requires an approximately 20-minute ride from the intersection to reach the starting point of trail trek. Another 20-minute walk from the start of trail trek is enough to reach Digkilaan, Digkilaan is where the marvelous Dodiongan Falls.
